2009 “Homes for the Holidays” House Tour

History of the Tour

For more than 45 years, The Newcomers Holiday House Tour has been an important event that raises funds for numerous venerable charities. This year’s Tour is a massive creative effort, featuring five extraordinary homes of varying architectural styles, each creatively and exquisitely decorated by professional designers in unique holiday themes.

The Newcomers Holiday House Tour has become a high-profile event, drawing over 1,000 visitors from all parts of Fairfield and Westchester Counties. In 2007, the Newcomers Club of New Canaan raised over $86,000, all of which was distributed to local charities.

Unique Features of the 2009 Tour

• The theme for this year’s event is “Bringing the Community Together.” We intend to heighten the exposure of our local business partners to help drive incremental business. By partnering professional decorators with our five spectacular homes, our Tour will showcase local talent, which will help us to secure corporate sponsorships and sell tickets, thus raising funds for our local charities at a time when they need us most.

• Our intention is to create a highly entertaining and interactive holiday experience for our tour-goers. Our Tour will stimulate all five senses and include a shopping aspect for those who consider shopping the sixth sense! For example, you may enter a home and smell gingerbread cooking in the oven or hear carolers singing holiday classics. As you exit a home, a gift shop may appear for you to buy small presents such as candles, napkins, and placemats.

• For the first time, we are offering an evening event for tour-goers. When the sun goes down and the lights twinkle bright, it will be an entirely new experience from Tours of the past. The evening hours also opens the Tour up to a new audience, which we hope will increase ticket sales.

• To generate event anticipation and “buzz” within the community and through the media, we will be having a Private Reveal Party at the beginning of October for our sponsors, volunteers, and the media where we will “reveal” some of how we plan to entertain our tour-goers and create a highly entertaining and interactive experience within our community.

• The five awarded homes are extraordinary in their architecture and decor, each unique and special in their own right. Collectively, these homes provide a spectacular backdrop for a highly entertaining tour.

The House Tour website will be up in a few days. It is www.NCHolidayHouseTour.com. Tickets to the event can be purchased online beginning in September.
