According to Fairfield County Weekly, “G/R/A/N/D general manager Tom Siano says this bi-level bar and restaurant in downtown Stamford was well-known as a place to see and be seen even before taking top billing from Weekly readers in that category. “There’s nothing else like us in the area,” he says. “We’re upscale, more like a New York, SoHo-chic kind of place. We’re a nightclub, but we’re also a serious-food kind of place.” This much is true. And you’d be hard-pressed to find another place as good for people watching as Grand. A staircase in the front lends itself to grand entrances and exits, and seats are arrayed along a second floor that looks out onto the bar area. Even the restroom area, a communal unisex waiting room cordoned off by a metal curtain, encourages fraternization. Siano attributes the success of the club, now in its fifth year, to making a plan and sticking to it, such as offering Cuban jazz every Thursday. “We’ve kept everything consistent, from our food to the music, which is not gimmicky,” he says. “People know what to expect.” ”
